MotoE: Ferrari claims inaugural Enel FIM MotoE™ World Cup

17/11/2019

Fifth place at the last round of the 2019 Enel FIM MotoE™ World Cup sufficed for Matteo Ferrari (Trentino Gresini MotoE) to become the new competition’s first champion. The weekend’s two races were won by pole-winner Eric Granado (Avintia Esponsorama Racing).

With a cushion of 19 points over second-placed Hector Garzo in his favour, Ferrari travelled to Spain as favourite for the crown, although 11 riders were still in contention – on paper – ahead of the trip.

Thanks to his consistency over the year, including both victories at Misano, the Trentino Gresini MotoE rider made sure of the title by coming third and fifth in the two Valencia clashes. Bradley Smith (One Energy Racing) ended up second in the points table, tailed by Granado who enjoyed a perfect weekend in Spain, with a score of two victories and pole position.

Four different riders shared the inaugural MotoETM’s six race-wins, namely Niki Tuuli (Ajo MotoE), Mike Di Meglio (Eg 0,0 Marc VDS), Ferrari and Granado.

The competition’s all-electric bikes run on specifically-developed MICHELIN Slick MotoE and MICHELIN Rain MotoE tyres. The front slicks share similar characteristics with their MotoGPTM counterparts, while the rears are derived from Michelin’s customer-spec Superbike tyre.
