IMSA: Michelin tires consistent amid chaos for second MSR win
The No. 60 Meyer Shank Racing Acura with Tom Blomqvist and Colin Braun won a chaotic Sahlens Six Hours of Wakins Glen. The race came down to a late restart where several front running cars had to pit for more energy, including leader No. 31 Whelen Motorsports Cadillac coming to the final lap. That left Blomqvist in the lead and in position to win.
“I’m over the moon,” said Blomqvist. “We didn't have a clean day. We got to the front, we went back again, we got up, we went back. At the end we committed to a strategy, we executed and I’m really proud of the guys.”
The third round of the Michelin Endurance Cup featured a downpour of rain and 10 full-course cautions–breaking the series’ record for the most yellows since being part of the WeatherTech Championship.
“You know the car really came to us there in the end,” said Blomqvist. I had the best of the conditions, and the tires were great. When it heats up, you know, they really come into their element, so they work phenomenal for me. It gave me the grip to win the race.”
GTP teams remain at Watkins Glen Monday to test the new Michelin Pilot Sport Endurance tire that’s set to debut next season in IMSA’s top class and WEC’s Hypercar classes.
This tire feature 50% renewable and recyclable materials and will offer better consistency, improved tire wear and faster warmup. Its unique surface design makes the invisible, visible.
