IMSA: New Michelin racing tire made a successful debut in the iconic Rolex 24
A new Michelin racing tire made a successful debut in the iconic Rolex 24 after setting qualifying records as the 2024 IMSA season gets underway.
“It’s great to be here in the first race of the IMSA WeatherTech Championship season with the Rolex 24,” Jason Anzalone, Director of Motorsports, Michelin North America, said. “It’s an exciting year at Michelin Motorsport with the expansion of GTD and GTD PRO and the introduction of the Michelin Pilot Sport Pro tire line. Michelin brings a more sustainable approach to the WeatherTech championship.”
The race featured a 59-car field, with the GTD and GTD pro classes making up 36 of those entries. These production-based cars raced on the Michelin Pilot Sport Pro tire. The tire has been built with sustainability and performance in mind, with IMSA and Michelin set to reduce tire allocations by 17 percent in the 2024 season.
The race marked the second season of the GTP class featuring cutting-edge technology from Porsche, Cadillac, BMW and Acura.
