IMSA: Two Porsche victories secured—each on just ONE set of Michelin tires

13/04/2025

Tire strategy played a pivotal role once again at this year’s Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach, delivering Porsche Penske Motorsport’s third consecutive win of the season with the No. 7 driven by Nick Tandy and Felipe Nasr. Porsche also claimed victory in GTD with a fan-favorite appearance from Rexy—the No. 177 AO Racing entry piloted by Laurens Vanthoor and Jonny Edgar.

“We took a strategy that we didn’t change the tires,” Nasr said. “The Michelin tires were great all the way I was able to push, set some quick laps and brought to victory lane.”

Both Porsches pitted for fuel and a driver swap but chose to stay on the same set of Michelin tires they started the race with.

“Yeah, it worked, it got us into the lead,” Edgar said. “Laurens was fast enough to hold on, so I think in the end the strategy call was correct.”

Porsche continues to dominate the field with a total of five class wins so far in 2025.

Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach Results:

GTP: No. 7 Porsche Penske Motorsport, Felipe Nasr, Nick Tandy, Laurens Vanthoor
