Michelin's tires rise to the occasion as Márquez claims Michelin Grand Prix of Aragon
For the eighth time of his career, Marc Marquez (Ducati Lenovo Team) won the Michelin Grand of Aragon, Round 13 of this year's MotoGPTM World Championship. Pedro Acosta (2nd, Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) and Marco Bezzecchi (3rd, Aprilia Racing) made it three different makes on the podium, while Michelin's slicks shrugged off the Spanish heat to contribute to two new records. After qualifying second on the grid and winning Saturday's sprint, Marquez followed up with victory on Sunday on a combination of medium Michelin Power Slicks front and rear, like all the riders.
The Spaniard got away to a cautious start behind pole-sitter Bezzecchi but eased ahead on the seventh of the afternoon's 23 laps. With his mind focused on an eighth Aragon success, he then managed to pull away from Acosta who had also passed Bezzecchi on Lap 7.
The result was the Ducati star's fourth victory of the season and third sprint/grand prix double after Hungary and Germany.
Unable to contest Márquez' supremacy, Acosta defended second spot to the flag, as Bezzecchi, Alex Márquez (BK8 Gresini Racing MotoGP) and Jorge Martín (Aprilia Racing) rounded out the top-five.
Michelin's soft and medium front/rear Power Slicks were available for the weekend and both delivered the performance and consistency necessary to earn the riders' trust as the track temperature soared.
They showed strongly from the outset during Friday's practice when the existing track record – set by Marc Márquez's (1m46.704s) in 2025 - was bettered three times. Bezzecchi was eventually accredited with the new benchmark (1m44.962s) on his way to securing pole-position on Saturday. Márquez then showed his intent by winning the sprint after shaving five seconds off the same race's duration at Aragon compared with 2025.
Jorge Martin continues to top the provisional championship standings, tailed by Marc Marquez (+19 points) and Bezzecchi (+24).
