MotoGP: Bezzecchi wins in Portugal as Michelin helps more records tumble
The Qatar Airways Grand Prix of Portugal, Round 21 of the 2025 MotoGPTM World Championship, was won by Marco Bezzecchi (Aprilia Racing), ahead of Alex Marquez (BK8 Gresini Racing MotoGP). Pedro Acosta (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) made it three different bike manufacturers on the podium, a further sign of the versatility of Michelin's Power slicks which contributed to two new records at Portimao. Pole-sitter Bezzecchi collected his second victory of the season after his summer success at Silverstone. The Italian got away to a perfect start to lead off the line on a front/rear combination of hard and medium MICHELIN Power Slicks, the pairing preferred by everyone but Alex Rins (Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP).
Bezzecchi bettered the existing race-lap record (set in 2024) on the second of the afternoon's 25 laps and his pace from lights-out soon enabled him to pull comfortably clear of his chasers. Taking full advantage of his tires' grip and consistency, the factory Aprilia rider went on to take the flag by a margin of 2.5 seconds over Marquez, winner of Saturday's closely-contested sprint.
Bezzecchi's speed was such that he succeeded in completing the distance in a time of 41m13.616s, an improvement of almost five seconds on the previous shortest-duration benchmark.
Acosta was second on his works KTM after clocking the fastest race-lap (1m38.237s) third time around. The top-five was rounded out by Fermin Aldeguer (BK8 Gresini Racing MotoGP) and Brad Binder (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) who finished respectively 12 and 16 seconds behind Bezzecchi.
Michelin's range coped perfectly with the weekend's changing conditions, including during Friday's showery weather which hampered the team's early groundwork. The entire range of slicks was run during the day's free-practice sessions, but all the riders opted for the hard front and soft rear for Saturday's 12-lap sprint.
The hard front was favored again for Sunday's showpiece, this time paired with the medium rear, a combination that helped three different makes to participate in the podium celebrations.
Portimao also hosted the last two races of the hotly-disputed 2025 MotoETM World Championship. Seven riders were still in with a chance of claiming the title before the kicked off but the crown ended up on the head of Alessandro Zaccone. The Aruba Cloud rider was helped on his way by the performance of his MICHELIN Power MotoE tires which contain a front/rear average of 57 percent renewable or recycled raw materials. The series will now observe a pause and will not be staged in 2026.
Marc and Alex Marquez were already sure of ending the year in first and second places before traveling to Portugal. The weekend's result means Bezzecchi is provisionally third, 35 points clear of Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati Lenovo Team) with one round remaining.

Marco Bezzecchi, auteur de la pole position, a remporté sa deuxième victoire cette saison après Silverstone. Le pilote official Aprilia a pris un bon départ et a conservé sa position de leader. Chaussé de MICHELIN Power Slick Hard à l’avant et médium à l’arrière comme l’ensemble du plateau à l’exception d’Alex Rins (Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP), il a imprimé un rythme soutenu dès les premiers tours pour creuser l’écart sur ses poursuivants.
Dès le deuxième des 25 tours, il a battu le record du tour de 2024 et a ensuite enchaîné des tours constants et rapide profitant du grip et de la constance de ses pneumatiques. Il a franchi la ligne d’arrivée avec une avance de 2,5 secondes sur Alex Marquez, deuxième en signant un nouveau record de durée en 41'13.616, soit près de cinq secondes plus rapides que le précédent.
Alex Marquez, vainqueur de la course Sprint très disputée samedi, a effectué une course solide en terminant deuxième devant Pedro Acosta. Le pilote official KTM a signé le record du tour au troisième tour en 1'38.237.
Fermin Aldeguer (BK8 Gresini Racing MotoGP) et Brad Binder (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) ont complété le Top 5 mais ont rallié l’arrivée respectivement à plus de 12 et 16 secondes du vainqueur.
Les pneumatiques Michelin ont dû faire face à des conditions de piste évolutives. La journée de vendredi a été marquée par des averses de la pluie intermittente, ce qui a contrarié le travail de préparation des équipes. L’ensemble de la gamme Slick a été testée vendredi. Le choix pour la course sprint s’est portée sur la spécification Hard à l’avant et Soft à l’arrière pour couvrir les 12 tours. Pour la course de dimanche, les pilotes ont conservé le Hard à l’avant et ont préféré le Médium à l’arrière. Ce choix a permis à trois constructeurs différents de monter sur le podium. Deux nouveaux records ont été établis pendant la course, record du tour en course et record du durée.
Portimao accueillait les deux dernières manches du très disputé Championnat du monde MotoETM où sept pilotes pouvaient encore prétendre au titre. Alessandro Zaccone (Aruba Cloud) a décroché le titre mondial après une saison marquée par la montée en performance des pneu MICHELIN Power MotoE présentant un taux moyen de matériaux renouvelables et recyclés de 57 %. Le championnat du monde MotoETM marque une pause et ne sera pas reconduit en 2026.
Au classement général, les deux premières places étant déjà attribuées à Marc et Alex Marquez, Marco Bezzecchi occupe la troisième place avec 35 points d’avance sur Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati Lenovo Team), quatrième, à une épreuve de la fin de saison.
