MotoGP: Full marks for Marquez and Michelin at Aragon!

08/06/2025

Aided by the outstanding grip provided by his MICHELIN Power Slicks, Marc Marquez (Ducati Lenovo Team) dominated Round 8 of the 2025 MotoGPTM World Championship to pocket pole-position, both race wins and new track and race-lap records for Aragon!

The Ducati rider delivered an emphatic masterclass by topping every time-sheet, from Free Practice 1 to Sunday's GO Pro Grand Prix of Aragon itself.

After qualifying on pole with a new lap record for the circuit (1m45.704s), he went on to claim his seventh sprint victory from eight this season, completing the 11-lap race seven seconds faster than last year's duration on a front/rear combination of medium and soft Michelin slicks.

The next day, he got away to a flawless start to the 23-lap grand prix before leading to the checkered flag. In the process, he bettered the race-lap record several times before shaving a second off the previous benchmark with three laps remaining, helped by the consistency and grip of his front and rear medium Michelin Power slicks.

He crossed the line a second clear of his brother Alex (BK8 Gresini Racing MotoGP) after completing the distance 24 seconds faster than the former shortest race-duration record.

Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati Lenovo Team) was the third podium finisher, while Pedro Acosta (Red Bull KTM Factory Team) – the only rider to choose the hard front tire – and Franco Morbidelli (Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team) rounded out the afternoon's top five.

Michelin's MotoGPTM range provided yet another illustration of its form at the Spanish circuit which was resurfaced in 2024 and which hosts few races. The grand prix saw 14 riders beat the previous race-lap record, with almost the entire grid competing on the medium compound front and rear. The only exception was Acosta (hard front).

The weekend's results have taken Marc Marquez (233 points) further clear at the top of the provisional world championship standings. He is now 32 and 93 points clear of his brother and Bagnaia respectively.

Next round: Brembo Grand Prix of Italy, Mugello (June 22-22).
