MotoGP: invincible Marquez wins MICHELIN Grand Prix of Hungary
Marc Marquez enjoyed another ideal weekend at Hungary's Balaton Park Circuit, home of Round 14 of the 2025 MotoGPTM World Championship. After qualifying on pole, the Ducati Lenovo Team star won Saturday's sprint race, then Sunday's grand prix, ahead of Pedro Acosta (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) and Marco Bezzecchi (Aprilia Racing). Michelin's range was perfectly suited to the new track, providing the riders with outstanding grip and consistency over all three days. Read on for more about what went on at the Hungarian GP.
The Hungarian racetrack saw Marquez notch up a seventh straight success, becoming the 22nd different track where the Spaniard has topped the order in bike racing's premier class.
He settled in quickly to claim pole-position with a benchmark time of 1m36.518s, then led Saturday's race from lights-out to the end to pick up his seventh sprint success in a row. It was also his 13th victory from 14 this season.
He opted for medium slicks front and rear for the next day's bill-topper but got away to a moderate start, leaving Bezzecchi to take control early on. By the fifth of the afternoon's 26 laps, he had climbed from fourth to second, however, and by Lap 11 he was in front.
Aided by the consistency and grip of his tires, the Ducati rider clocked the best race lap next time around (1m37.699s) before posting a sequence of quick times that laid the foundations for a winning margin of 4.3 seconds at the flag which was waved by the Michelin Man.
Acosta fought back from seventh on the grid on the soft Michelin rear to second overall, his best result of 2025 to date. Bezzecchi was third to earn his second straight podium finish.
Defending champion Jorge Martin (Aprilia Racing) was a remarkable fourth after qualifying 16th, while Luca Marini (Castrol Honda Team) came fifth – his best finish of the campaign.
Michelin had little data concerning Balaton Park, but the grip, consistency and performance of its simulator-developed tires were a perfect match for the new circuit...
Sprint race (Saturday):
All the riders chose the medium front and soft rear.
MICHELIN Grand Prix of Hungary (Sunday):
- Front: all riders on the medium slick,
- Rear: all riders on either the soft or medium.
Both rear options proved competitive and the top-three featured three different bike manufacturers, a further illustration of the MICHELIN Power range's versatility.
With a tally of 455 points to his name, Marquez has strengthened his position at the top of the provisional standings. He is now 175 and 227 points clear respectively of his brother Alex and team-mate Francesco Bagnaia.
Hungary also hosted the seventh of the 2025 MotoETM World Championship's eight rounds. Mattia Casadei (LCR E-Team) enjoyed a grand-slam weekend (pole-position, plus both wins) to recover his lead in the points table. The MotoETM field benefits from Michelin tires that pack a high proportion of renewable or recycled raw materials (front: 56%/rear:58%).
Next round: Monster Energy Grand Prix of Catalonia, Barcelona, Spain (September 5-7).
