MotoGP: maiden Red Bull Ring glory for Marquez

17/08/2025

The BWIN Grand Prix of Austria – Round 13 of the 2025 MotoGPTM World Championship – saw Marc Marquez (Ducati Lenovo Team) pocket a sixth straight win, his first at the Red Bull Ring. Fermin Aldeguer (BK8 Gresini Racing MotoGP) and Marco Bezzecchi (Aprilia Racing) were second and third at the demanding venue where the MICHELIN Power range delivered its familiar cocktail of performance and consistency. Read on for more about the Austrian GP weekend.

Marquez won both races from fourth on the grid. With the track temperature standing at 42°C for Sunday's grand prix, the Spaniard set a strong pace from lights-out on medium MICHELIN Power slicks, emerging in second place behind pole-sitter Bezzecchi on the second of the afternoon's 28 laps.

Having paid careful attention to his tires, he waited until Lap 19 to pass in front, although the Italian responded to retrieve the lead shortly afterwards. Marquez then took control for good next time around and a string of quick, consistent laps in the closing stages helped him to secure his first Red Bull Ring success by a margin of 1.1 seconds. In the process, he posted a new shortest race-duration for the Austrian circuit (42m11.006s).

Aldeguer was named Rider of the Day after a splendid climb from sixth at the start. He overtook Bezzecchi four laps from home and went on to claim the first second place of his rookie MotoGPTM season. Pedro Acosta (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) and Enea Bastianini (Red Bull Tech 3 Team) rounded out the top five.

With the exception of Yamaha's Alex Rins (hard front), all the riders chose the medium MICHELIN Power Slick front and rear. Michelin's rear for the low-grip circuit featured a specific construction to cope with the hot weather and the consistency of Marquez's tires contributed to a new shortest race-duration record.

The Red Bull Ring also hosted Round 3 of the 2025 MotoETM World Championship for which Michelin has developed bespoke tires with a high proportion of renewable or recycled raw materials (front: 56% / rear: 58%). Matteo Ferrari (Felo Gresini MotoE) qualified on pole and took both wins to enjoy a grand-slam weekend.

Marquez has increased his lead at the top of the provisional standings to 142 and 155 points respectively over his brother Alex (BK8 Gresini Racing MotoGP) and Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati Lenovo Team).

Next round: Michelin® Grand Prix of Hungary, Balaton Park (August 22-24).
