MotoGP: Márquez makes history at the Sachsenring with Michelin

12/07/2026

A grand-slam weekend for Marc Márquez at the Liqui Moly Grand Prix of Germany saw the Ducati Lenovo Team rider notch up a record-equaling tenth MotoGP™ win at the Sachsenring. Second and third at the end of the 2026 World Championship's 11th fixture were Trackhouse MotoGP team-mates Ai Ogura and Raúl Fernández. Michelin's tires also made a mark by contributing to a new track record for the venue. Read on for more about what happened at the GermanGP.

Marquez's polished performance at the Sachsenring harvested a new lap record in qualifying, plus wins in both the sprint and main races – his tenth grand prix success at the German venue.

His opponents could only watch on as he topped Q2 to earn the right to start from pole-position, and he followed up with a record-breaking 19th sprint success.

For Sunday's showpiece, he chose a front/rear combination of hard/medium MICHELIN Power Slicks which he used to get away to an ideal start before taking advantage of their consistency to lead all the way to the flag and win by more than two seconds. In doing so, the Spaniard drew level with the MotoGP™ record for the highest number of victories by the same rider at the same circuit.

Meanwhile, building on his strong performance in the Netherlands a fortnight ago, Ogura provided another illustration of his speed by coming second after passing Fernández with six laps to go.

Pedro Acosta (Red Bull KTM Team) was fourth and Jorge Martin shrugged off pressure from Ducati Lenovo Team's Francesco Bagnaia over the last 10 laps to pocket fifth. His Aprilia team-mate Marco Bezzecchi was forced to sit out both races, however, after breaking a collar-bone during Q2.

The Sachsenring is notorious for being one of the calendar's hardest tracks on tires, particularly their left shoulders. Although Michelin had brought its soft, medium and hard fronts for the weekend, along with a choice between its soft and medium rears, the entire grid decided to combine the front hard with the medium rear for the grand prix. The pairing delivered an enviable cocktail of consistency, grip and resistance to wear throughout the 30-lap fixture and helped Márquez to maintain a strong race-pace, in addition to the new track record he clocked on Saturday.

Martín continues to top the provisional world championship standings, 14 and 18 points clear of Ogura and Márquez.

MotoGP™ will now enjoy a short summer-break before action resumes on August 8-10 with the British Grand Prix at Silverstone.
