No. 10 WTRAndretti Acura triumphs in Detroit on one set of Michelin tires

02/06/2024

One set of Michelin tires at the Detroit Grand Prix guided the No. 10 WTRAndretti Acura with Filipe Albuquerque and Ricky Taylor back to victory.

“Between the streets of Detroit, going on cold tires, it’s always hard,” Albuquerque said. “But actually, here, the Michelins were really behaving super well. Actually, the restart, as we could see, it was controllable—great performance from the tires.”

This win marked the first return to victory lane for the No. 10 team since August of 2022. The winless streak ended after 15 IMSA WeatherTech races.

“I mean, for us, winning, especially from our history, not to be winning for the year and a half is super emotional,” Albuquerque said. “It’s almost like tears to my eyes just from a single win. But again, I think it’s just the struggle, the hard work over the last year and a half and finally be here. I’m just super proud of the team.”

Provisionally in GTP, the No. 7 Porsche Penske Motorsport with drivers Dane Cameron and Felipe Nasr hold a 70-point lead over No. 2 Cadillac Ganassi Racing.

In GTD Pro, AO Racing’s Rexy scored its second straight victory with drivers Seb Priaulx and Laurin Heinrich in the Porsche 911 GT3 R (992). The No. 77 extended its championship lead provisionally by 84 points over No. 14 Vasser Sullivan Lexus.

IMSA now heads to Upstate New York for the Sahlen’s Six Hours of the Glen. The Michelin Endurance Cup race takes place on June 23rd and can be seen on USA Network and Peacock at 11:00am.

“Let’s hope that we break the spell, and we will have more,” said Albuquerque.
