SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT

WHY DO WE RACE?

Ever since its creation, Michelin’s mission has been to improve the mobility of people and goods. Over the decades, we take pride in having demonstrated, on a global scale, the performance of our racing tires. However, the nature of motorsport has changed.

The colossal challenge we face is to develop 'evergreen' tires for everyone, whose design and production have a limited impact on the planet's resources, biodiversity, and CO₂ emissions, without compromising the performance that has made the MICHELIN brand successful.

More than ever, competition serves as a testing ground and accelerator for technological innovation. The inherent extreme conditions of motorsport give us the opportunity to innovate, experiment at a record pace, learn, design new solutions, and expedite the development of sustainable solutions that benefit everyone.

As part of its contribution to this change, Michelin can count not only on the 6,000 research specialists who work out of its Technology Centre, but also on its motorsport activities which provide a valuable laboratory that puts its solutions for tomorrow through their paces in extreme conditions on race tracks and rally stages across the world.

We race to

  • provide our partners with lasting performance from start to finish. Our commitment is to offer you a safe driving experience from the first to the last kilometer, with tires you can trust up to the legal wear limit.
  • to tackle new challenges. Our tires increasingly contain bio-sourced and recycled raw materials. The advanced materials we develop in motorsport will benefit all MICHELIN tires from 2025 onward.
  • to find answers, simulate, learn from data science, and push our limits. Our use of simulation engineering in motorsport is expanding to tire production, enabling significant savings in resources and CO₂ emissions.
